This morning, thanks to the return of standard time, we had a chance to do something a little different. The plan was to walk the Baden Powell trail from the entry to the Grouse Grind to Skyline Drive, and then take the Powerline Trail back to the parking lot. Since I had never walked this before, I didn't know what to expect, and at the second Mackay Creek crossing, after not seeing anyone going either direction, I decided to abort and just retrace our steps. Call me a coward. We were likely just about 5 minutes away from the drive.
Rosalie, however, was no coward. She went up and down the side of the mountain after chipmunks as I huffed up the rather tame slopes. She forded the stream with caution but confidence -- big progress for my hydrophobe. On the way back we met up with a 7 mo old staffie named Artemis whom she had to play a game of super fast super obstacle trick tag with, just to show she was the winner. The puppy did not like to lose. The woods were beautiful, the peace of the lush green with the sunlight just getting though. The burnt orange of the decomposing wood chips. A nice morning out. A tired dog. No camera. If I am going to do this properly, I will have to change my habits.
